Los Toreros: A Typical Spanish dining experience

Popular restaurant for big groups dinners among young people in Barcelona.

Right next to las Ramblas it is a convinient place to have a fun and typical dinner and then go out.

Besides the big portions of tapas, the cool thing about this restaurant is the decoration. Totally customized as with bulls and bullfighters pictures, it cannot get more typical spanish.

The good thing is that eventhough it can look touristy because of that it is really popular among young folks: the big portions, the environment and specially the Sangria make this place so popular.

Avoid it if you feel like a romantic dinner, but do go if you want a lively dinner before going out.

La Bella Napoli: A Real Italian Experience

Next to Paralel, you can find "La Bella Napoli", a superb italian restaurant not to be missed.

1. The chef, Raffaele Iannone, is actually Napoli, where pizza was born
2. The pasta is home made.
3. Pizzas taste just like in Italy, they have a very thin base and fresh ingredients.
4. There must be a reason why people from any neighborhood in Barcelona (even from the poshest ones) plan in advance their dinner there.

El Raval: The hidden beauty of the Neighbourhood

Once called the Barrio Chino and more lately renamed the Raval, this is the kind of place where dark casks of vermouth line the walls, and the air is blue with cigarette smoke and sharp with salty fish.

The great mixture that El Raval has to offer, gives Barcelona this cosmopolitan and integration air that the city is famous for. The urban ecology that moves inexorably from artists to real estate developers to trendy professionals seems in full swing. Bookstores, boutiques featuring local designers, restaurants, small galleries and workshops, and the icily hip Casa Camper Hotel surround the museums.

Here you will find the super trendy swedish that came here to study desing or the Indian woman that gives a snack after school to her kid with pita bread, or lady Maria, the typical old Spanish woman that still dresses in black because her husband died 10 years ago.

This unique atmosphere makes is translated into arty bars and live night live.

Make sure you spend some time sitting having a coffee or a beer by Plaça dels Angels or Plaça Macba. Relax and do some people watching on the plaza in front of the museum, where young artists and locals sun themselves on the warm slate while skateboarders kick-flip around them.

It is as well one of the few spots where you can actually have a view, since it is a very spacious square next to the Modern Art Musuem.

MACBA, the museum, holds temporary exhibits and I recommend you check the Agenda just in case there's something worth it. Next door as well you can find CCCB (Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona). The center opened its doors in 1994 to provide a focal point for creative energy in the city, as well, worth take a look to its conceptual exhibits and agenda.

L'Hostal de la Rita: Fancy and Relaxed Dinners

In case you get tired of Tapas and noisy bars, I recommend you head to "L'Hostal de la Rita". This very popular restaurant combines a budget meal with a very pleasant athmosphere.

Not only the prices and the food quality makes this place so popular, one of the keys is as well the wonderful location: Arago with Passeig de Gracia cannot be more centric. Both green and Yellow line at Passeig de Gracia stop take you to this restaurant.

Menus vary often but if you have the chance try the carpaccio's.

Hostal de la Rita belongs to a chain of well known restaurants spread all over Barcelona and Madrid. Other nice and popular ones are "La Mamasita", "Splendido" and "Flamant", however the most centric one is "Hostal de la Rita".

Expect to pay around 15 euros for a full menu with house wine.

La Gavina: For Pizza Lovers

La Gavina is situated in the trendy neighborhood Gracia. You can easily get there by taking the green line until Fontana.

This restaurant is made for authentic pizza lovers, don't go there if somebody in your group doesn't like pizza as the menu ONLY has pizzas. But they are the best.

Prepared in a wood oven you will have a traditional taste of Italy while being in the heart of Barcelona. Expect the meal to be around 10 - 15€ and ask for the house wine, it's the best for quality/prize.

Also, expect long queues on the weekends, so make making a reservation wouldn't be a bad idea.

Bar Tomás: Best Patatas Bravas Ever

Heading a bit north where tourists normally wouldn't arrive, you will find Bar Tomás, known for its famous "patatas bravas". The secret is on the sauce and the texture.

The good thing about this bar as well, is that it is the purely typical spanish bar, even though foreigners get to know it more and more, the truth is that those who go the most are people living around the neighborhood.

So take the bus, or Ferrocarrils Catalans in Plaza Catalunya and head to Sarria (Sarria stop). You will have the chance of feeling you have lived there forever for a couple of hours.

Note: If you see there is a long queue, don't worry, wait! It's worth it, plus the services is very fast, so chances are that you can get a table in max 20 minutes. As well bare in mind that maybe you don't want to kiss anybody after eating those bravas ;)

L'Escriba

The reasons behind your visit to this bar might be cultural, physical and inspirational.

Founded at the very beginning of the XX century it represents a fantastic little modernist building in Las Ramblas right next to the Opera "El Liceu". All the colours and decoration makes a really cozy and pleasant stop.

Not only that the pastries of this establishment are superb and well known around the country; you will easily see all the pictures of famous people visiting and purchasing in the café.

It is not budget pastry but it is strongly recommended if you feel like a caprice or if you are chocoholic. As they say in their site: "We don't only make cakes, but we also create illusions"

Up to you to check if it is true!
